Non-Resident Alien (NRA) Tax Notice Campaign

Notice of time sensitive tax form completion instructions

What is the objective of this campaign?

This is an annual service notice to inform a participant that their IRS W-8BEN Form, on record with Fidelity, has expired or is expiring on January 1. It includes instructions to submit an updated form to Fidelity to maintain eligibility for tax benefits. The communication is typically sent in September or October to allow time to complete and return.

IRS Form W-8BEN is completed by the participant to establish the individual’s status as a nonresident alien and their country of residence. Fidelity uses the information provided on the form to establish if an applicable resident country tax treaty applies to reduce the tax rate. This form is kept on file at Fidelity. The form expires at the end of the third calendar year of the year following the date the form is signed.

Who will receive this campaign?

DC and DB plan participants with a greater than $0 plan balance whose W-8BEN on file has expired or is expiring.
